DUAL ENROLLMENT Q&A

Q: What is Dual Enrollment?
Dual Enrollment is a program that allows high school students the opportunity to enhance and advance their education by enrolling in college courses, while still in high school. Students will be able to experience college-level courses, discuss college and career options, and shorten the time required to complete a college degree. Riverside Prep students have the opportunity to earn high school and college credit at the same time.

Q: What are the benefits?
Students are able to take college courses at no cost to them. Books are also provided by Riverside Prep. Students can begin taking college courses while still in high school. These courses will roll over to their college transcripts and give them a head start towards their college graduation. This reduces the amount that they would have to pay for college. Students feel more confident about their ability to complete a college course. RP Teachers are in the classroom to help them stay organized and on track. Each college credit is worth 3.33 high school credits. So for a 3-credit college class a student can earn 10 high school credits.

Q: Is there an age or grade restriction?
Classes are offered to 11th and 12th grade students. We are looking into offering classes to 10th grade students for the first time next school year.

Q: Is there a GPA restriction?
We recommend students have a 2.0 or above. If you have below a 2.0 and would like to take a dual enrollment course, please speak with your counselor.

Q: How many classes can you take at a time?
Students can take 2 classes per semester

Q: What is the workload like?
Classes are college level and have a workload proportionate to the credits. A three credit class has about 3 hours of work per week.

Q: Can I take other classes not listed?
Yes, if there is a class you want to take that is not offered, you can complete a NON CCAP Dual Enrollment form. For these classes, you will attend on your own time. They may be on the college campus or online.

Q: Is there a maximum number of students allowed per class?
Most classes average 25 students, the max is 30 students.

Q: How do I sign up?
Let your counselor know you are interested and attend a Dual Enrollment information night.
