VICTORVILLE • In a battle for first place in the Cross Valley League, the Riverside Prep boys basketbball team stifled University Prep’s offense to remain undefeated in the league and all alone atop the league’s standings.

Riverside Prep won 41-34 to improve to 8-0 in the CVL and 16-1 overall. University Prep had a chance to claim a share of first but instead fell to 6-2 in league play.

The teams were tied at 25 midway through the third quarter, but the Silver Knights went on an 8-0 run to take control of the game.

“It was great to actually have a competitive game, it seems like it has probably been about five weeks since we actually had a competitive game,” Riverside Prep coach Daniel Rincon said. “I love it because it really shows the character of our team, especially being a low-scoring game. Our team really stepped up defensively.
